It happened in Humlebaek, the city where the museum of modern art is located. There was this very large sculpture. What I remembered is that I made friends with some children I didn’t know. We were running around this huge sculpture - I can’t remember the artist - but I know it is still standing there now. It was white with some black stripes painted vertical and horizontal. I think it was hollow. We just shouted at each other. I remembered I was impressed that I could hear this inside. I think I remember it because back then, the playgrounds were just playgrounds: there was a swing, somewhere you could climb, very specific, not like a sculpture. So this was really, really new and impressive. It is a large sculpture, but for children it was really huge. I think we tried to climb it, but it was impossible to get up on it for a child. I think it was also a bit slippery.
I asked my mother about this because I recognized it from about two years ago when I was in Louisiana again. So I just put these pieces together and also asked myself: Could this situation - when I played with it - have inspired me to become an artist? So you keep wondering… I don’t think we, as children, knew what art is… It was just “having fun” in a park.
